Pip’s Perspective 5/26/23
(Newsletter Column at Parish Internship)
Hello, Broadway Family!
As I spoke about last week, my time here is coming to a close. I preach this Sunday (Pentecost), then I’ll just be wrapping up a few things before the end of the month.
It has truly been a pleasure getting to know all of you, and being of service to this congregation. Broadway is a small but mighty church! Every church I know of took a hit during the pandemic, and I appreciate how Broadway continues to provide meaningful and powerful worship, as well as different ways to connect, including fellowship after worship, Bible Study, the Social Justice Committee and more. I love how welcoming Broadway is…. from the welcome statement to how warm and friendly everyone is in person, online and on the phone. I felt welcome here from the very beginning, and I deeply appreciate the diversity and passion here.
Also, much appreciation to Alka. It means a lot to me that she welcomed me here, and gave me so much freedom in crafting my sermons and revitalizing the social justice committee. She taught me so much, including how to preach and lead worship in a more embodied way, with my enthusiasm and emotions showing through my face and body. She taught me how to make worship more visual and sensorily rich. She gave me feedback that helped my written communication as well. This has been such a rich opportunity, and I am so grateful.
As I mentioned above, this Sunday is Pentecost! Pentecost celebrates the beginning of the Christian Church, as the Holy Spirit descends onto Christ’s followers. The Holy Spirit is described in Acts 2 as being a mighty wind, and as tongues of fire. The Holy Spirit is an active state of being that moves into ready hearts and calls people into action. How does the Holy Spirit call us today? When we are moved by the Spirit, what are we called to do?
Will you ponder these questions with us on Sunday?
Thank you, Thank you, Thank you for being a part of this beautiful church, and a part of my learning! May God’s blessings fill every corner of your life, may you have all you need, and may love fill your heart today and all days!
Be well! Be Blessed!
